i_stripe >> Did you ever find a price on the thermometer from Trerice that you were checking on in the other forum? I have been reading back though it collecting my thoughts and I would like to get a few for the new plant.

Thanks

Oilguy,
Here is the reply I got on one of them. I'll see if I still have the web address also so you can cross reference just what it is.

PS.........I found the PDF file they sent me about how to order so I sent it to you as an email.

P/N B8560410 is $80.15; delivery 3 weeks. I don?t have a way of calculating actual freight, but figure it would be about $10-15 UPS Ground. Hello to the folks of Oak Harbor.

Hey Oilguy,
I just found out I have a source for 5, 10, 15, and 30 gallon Steel Paint Pots.
I'm thinking I might just use a couple of them as part of this unit, 30 gallon for the boiler, 10 or 15 gallon for the condenser. I think all I'd need to do is replace the rubber gaskets with stove gasket material. Think this might work?????

They are rated for pressure.
Are they SS? New or used?

After thinking about it... I would use the 30 for the condenser and the 15 for the boiler. You need as much surface area as you can get to condense the vapor back to liquid.

Right on, I had been thinking about the 30 for the boiler, but more surface area for condensation makes sense. Tanks are used, gonna have to clean the outside up, and they are steel, not stainless, so welding on them will be easy. Guess I'll redesign things right quick.<G>

Yeah... the more I think about things... the more I want to get away from a boiler.
I started build the inside of the fire box today. It is 1/4" Sch80 pipe with forged steel fitting. I am going to make a radiator of sorts with them and Tig weld them up so there is no possibility of a leak. It is going to be about 6' of total lenth in the firebox and the box will be about 12"W x 18"D I made a atomizing jet yeaterday that sprays 1.5 GPM @ 40psi and I am going to aim this at a small plate that will be angled to create a directional flow in the distillation tower.
I am working on a design for the bubble tray based on information that I have found on the net from dealers that sell them and I sould have that worked out shortly. I hope the burner comes in soon so I can get the measurements from that of figure my cuts.
I will keep the information coming as I get it...
Good luck

I think in the interest of getting something going, I'm just going to build around one of the 30 gallon tanks. I'll try an idea I got from PV for the condenser first as it will be something fairly quick to put together. I'll be using the Woford(?) Burner for heat. Since I have most of the things I'll need, I hope to get started this weekend.

I am looking for a thermometer that will read up to 1100oF but I am not finding anything feasible.
Does anyone think that a Pyrometer like you can use for EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp) on a vehicle work for this? I want something that will screw into a pipe. I know they will read up to 1500F and that is the range I need to see.
I am going to use Cooking grill type therm on the rest of the plant.
Thanks

OG - Check out this link. Go to the bottom of the page. This Pyrometer should measure up to 2400+ deg F
