Converting Used Motor Oil to Diesel,

Hello everybody, I am a newbie to, all the way from Sweden that is, and has with great interest started to read on this forum.
I am very interested if you have any information to share or even plans to sell. We are a couple of guys in Sweden that going to start to build a processor for cracking and fractional destination of used motor oil. We have a local forum for biodiesel production. http://hemmagjordbiodiesel.egetforum.se

Instead of making all the trail and errors ourselves, it would be much better (and appreciated) to learn what others already have learned and tried. Even a study visit could be of interest for some of us.
And, to give you a clue why, the price per gallon of diesel in Sweden is more than 10 US$.

Our goal is (and what we are planning for) is to build a processor for thermal cracking and fractional distillation of used motor oil into diesel. This is to work with atmospheric pressure, to be heated with waste wood material. We would be happy to share our experiences when we have started and come a bit on the way.

Hope you can help.

Best Regards
//Lars

Best help I can give you is to read all the posts on this forum and go from there. A lot of your questions may already be on here. Welcome to the forum and good luck to you.

Valkommen. Many of us (like myself) are still just playing and experimenting and don't yet have a sill that we are satisfied with, but some have built some very nice rigs that look very professional and work quit well. review the gallery for some ideas.

Valkommen.....

Hi,

Nursecosmo, do I sense some knowledge in the Swedish language? :)

Thank you both for your answers!

I have started reading on the forum to learn more, to come closer finding out a functioning design and to find ideas. There are many good discussions yet to read. The closer one could get building a functional design from day one, the less time can be put in to have to rebuild and trial and errors.
I have also searched internet for layout plans with dimensions and specs, but there aren’t that munch to find, and I haven’t really been able to find any layout plans. I have learned that there sometimes plans for sale on ebay, but these are very armature made.

I have managed to find a technical source book that I will order and read, but still, this is made for large scale production plants. But still, maybe it can be scaled down. I’ll be happy to share what ever useful information I find from this.

Safety is also an issue of course. How do one build a safe design, and what safety regulations to live by? The heated hot oil that has turned into gas are highly flammable an can cause really bad accidents if one doesn’t do it right (or have a safe design).

There are still a lot of questions still to be learned and figured out before we can start building, any tips and tricks, design pictures and/or dimensions, how-to descriptions will be much appreciated. I’ll be happy to share anything we find out in our in our experiments. A friend of mine have a company that builds large scale district heating plants, and he have promised to help me with setting up an air flow control to be able to control heating temperature, I’ll be happy to share that to.

Best Regards
//Lars

Is this any good?

Waste Engine Oils: Rerefining and Energy Recovery (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Waste-Engine-Oils-Rerefining-and-Energy-Recovery_W0QQitemZ150272662215QQihZ005QQcategoryZ3 78QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

I would not buy it there, since there are cheaper places, but still?

I think you could get the same info at www.howstuffworks.com for what it is worth... Then just google the key words in their advertisement to find out more about the rest of the topics.
That is just what I would do if I wanted to know more about those issues... But that is just me and I am cheap and resourceful.

I was wondering, where do you find your pictures ? I mean, for those of you who like me, dont always have nice pictures to use to scrap ?

I find it hard to have nice ones sometimes and I find myself losing hours on the internet browsing through free pictures etc.

Thanks.

I have a business that has come up with an application that it would like to use as a marketing tool. Where can I find a programmer that will create the application and also sign over all the rights to the application upon completion?

Thank you Sitepoint peeps.

I live in PA and cant find anywhere in PA or DE that can make me a 5" dual exhaust that will mount on my already existing 5" setup. Is a 5" dual exhaust possible and if so where can i get it or buy the stuff to make it or get it welded together to install it?

This may sound like a dumb question, but...Where in the world are oil reserves located and are there any located within the United States?

Hi guys, try www.wasteoildiesel.com --- I spent a lot of time researching and building a refinery to make diesel out of waste motor oil. I finally got it to the point where it worked and was duplicatable. As you can tell my site building ability lacks a bit, but the plans work and so does the plant.

No one makes a 5" dual exhaust. The closest you can get is a 4". Honestly there is no need for anything bigger than 4" regardless of horse power but from what I read the 5" single system does give a bit deeper tone. You could do a dual 4" and dual 5" tips or 6" tips etc.
